What does it cost to switch?
The usual costs are the early repayment fee (capped by law, and lower on variable-rate contracts), the new bank's valuation, and registration costs. Many banks absorb part of this to win the business. We give you the full figure before you decide.
Can I switch if I have missed payments?
It is harder, because the new bank will check your record at the Banco de Portugal credit register. It is still worth a conversation — sometimes restructuring the existing loan is the better route.
What happens to my life insurance?
You are not obliged to take the new bank's policy. You can keep your existing cover or shop for another, as long as it meets the required terms. This is a common place to lose money, so we always look at it.
